Bombardier Confirms Order for 150 Additional Rail Cars for the San Francisco Bay Area


Bombardier Transportation announced that the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) confirmed an order for 150 additional rail cars valued at approximately $266 million US ($274 million CDN, 213 million euro). The order represents the exercise of an option under a contract signed on June 14, 2012. With this option, Bombardier now has firm orders for 410 cars with a total value of approximately $897 million US ($921 million CDN, 715 million euro).

Union Pacific Railroad Invests Nearly $25 Million for Illinois Infrastructure Improvements

Tuesday, June 26, 2012 - Union Pacific Railroad is enhancing Illinois' transportation infrastructure by investing nearly $25 million in the rail line that runs between Fults (about 30 miles south of Dupo) and near Chester. The project is in progress and is scheduled to be completed by mid-October.  This work is in addition to the project Union Pacific is doing in 2012 on the Illinois Department of Transportation's High Speed Rail corridor between Chicago and St. Louis. The 34-mile project includes replacing most of the rail in both the main lines, as well as renewing the surfaces at 73 road crossings.

Silversea Acquires Galapagos Tourism Company and Expedition Ship

Tuesday, June 26, 2012 - The Silversea Group announced that it has purchased Canodros SA, the premier Ecuadorian tourism company that operates in the Galapagos Islands, and their upmarket expedition ship, Galapagos Explorer II. Silversea plans to add Galapagos Explorer II to its ultra-luxury fleet of six ships next year, after the all-suite, 100-guest vessel undergoes a major refurbishment in September 2013 and is given a new name, steps that will ensure consistency with the standards of the Silversea fleet. Until that time, Galapagos Explorer II will continue on its planned schedule of cruises and will continue to be operated by Canodros, which is based in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

CEB sustains cargo lead in Q1 2012; to expand domestic network


Cebu Pacific (PSE:CEB) transported more domestic cargo than other airlines in the 1st quarter (Q1) of 2012, according to recently released Civil Aeronautics Board data.

CEB carried 22.1 million kilograms in cargo in Q1, besting the combined cargo loads carried by both Philippine Airlines and Airphil Express.

US hotel industry's average daily rate rises by 5.2%


The U.S. hotel industry experienced increases in all three key performance metrics during the week of 10-16 June 2012, according to data from STR. In year-over-year comparisons for the week, occupancy ended the week with a 2.1-percent increase to 70.5 percent, average daily rate increased 5.2 percent to US$107.14 and revenue per available room rose 7.3 percent to US$75.54.
