The Port Eliot Festival is a relaxed celebration of books, music, films, fashion, food, flowers, nature, comedy, photography and wild swimming. It takes place over four days in July in the ancient Port Eliot estate in south-east Cornwall. Originally a literary festival, it has grown to include much more besides books. The organisers aim to offer ‘artistic surprises’ in one of the most beautiful parts of the country.The festival has a reputation for attracting big-name performers, often presenting new work or doing things they wouldn’t normally do. At last year’s festival Kate Winslet performed a rip-roaring secret show, Martin Scorsese selected the films for the outdoor cinema, Suggs from Madness DJ-ed in the woods through the night and fashion figures Barbara Hulanicki, Luella Bartley, Stephen Jones and Louise Gray created fashion looks for the audience. The 2012 line-up of artists will be announced in March.
